The Rev. Tom Furrer, Pastor

Rev. Tom Furrer began as our pastor in March 2025.  He served four parishes in Connecticut and one in Ohio from 1986 through 2024.

In 2003, he founded a non-profit charitable corporation to build and run medical clinics to serve the poor in Nigeria. Working in partnership with the Anglican Church of Nigeria, the corporation runs 8 clinics to serve rural and urban poor. In 2024, the clinics served 37,000 needy people with medical care.

Rev. Tom has a dual calling to serve both as a pastor of Christ Church in Kent and the leader of the charitable work in Nigeria.  About this dual role, he says: “I believe that God has called me to build up God’s people in the local church in my neighborhood and to serve God’s people on the other side of the world. In both cases, I try my best to share the love of Jesus through my words and actions.  I look forward to serving God’s people at Christ Church and I hope that we will continue to be a welcoming community of vibrant faith and tangible acts of love to our neighbors and everyone who comes to us.”

Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive; built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome.
