Originally Christ Church, Franklin Mills before the establishment of Kent, our parish met in home services for ten years before being officially organized by twenty-five dedicated people on October 11th, 1835. It was the fourth church in Kent and the 14th parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio. The first church building was consecrated in 1838 and has under gone several renovations and expansions since. In November 1990, the church roof literally collapsed. Our congregation banded together and continued services in an empty furniture store while we had a "Raise the Roof" fundraising campaign to fix the damage. Less than a year later, in September 1991, we returned to our church building with not only a repaired roof, but also a renovated undercroft and kitchen, a new elevator, and handicapped-accessible restrooms.
